View from Pine Cone viewpoint at The Hermitage in Perthshire, surrounded by woodland and river scenery, perfect for natural engagement photography.

The Pine Cone viewpoint at The Hermitage offers one of the most beautiful woodland backdrops in Perthshire for relaxed, natural engagement sessions.

Perthshire has some of the most gorgeous landscapes in Scotland — from quiet forest paths to sweeping loch views and timeless historic grounds. If you’re planning an engagement session that feels relaxed and authentic, you are in the right place.

I’ve photographed couples in these spots, and every time I’m reminded how special this region is for capturing connections, laughter and real moments together. (Patrice Little Photography)

Tip: Because the locations mentioned in this blog are indeed most iconic, they are tourist places so while not crowded, you may spot a person with a camera photographing nature. This makes it ideal if you're planning a surprise proposal photoshoot! Trust me, your loved one will be impressed!

Dunkeld & The HermitageMagical Woodland Moments

One of my favourite places in Perthshire for engagement sessions is Dunkeld & The Hermitage. Think tall trees, winding paths, woodland vibesand the gentle sound of waterfalls — it almost feels like a storybook.

This location works beautifully in all seasons and is perfect if you want your shoot to feel intimate and natural.

Perfect for: Soft colours, calm vibes, organic connection photos.

Loch Tay — Wide Open Views & Waterlight

If you love open spaces and big views, Loch Tay is breathtaking. The water combined with rolling hills and dramatic light at sunrise or sunset gives your images a timeless feel.

I especially love this location when couples are up for a quiet walk, a chat, and watching the light change over the water.

Perfect for: Epic views, relaxed stroll shots, quiet romantic moments.

Scone Palace Grounds — Classic & Elegant

For something a little more refined, the gardens and avenues around Scone Palace offer a beautiful blend of classic architecture and seasonal colour.

This is a great option if you want engagement images that feel a little more timeless but still relaxed — no stressful posing, just natural connection in a beautiful place.

Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park — Views + Forest Walks

I always enjoy sessions around Kinnoull Hill because it gives you a mix of woodland atmosphere and elevated views over the River Tay and Perth.

It’s perfect for couples who like variety in one session — quiet paths + open skies — and love feeling like they’re on a peaceful walk together.

Falls of Bruar — Nature’s Drama

Want something a little more adventurous? Falls of Bruar has those stunning waterfall drops and rugged charm that make for really expressive and emotive photos.

It’s wild and real — and that’s exactly why it works so well for couples who are comfortable in nature. (Patrice Little Photography)

Aberfeldy & Countryside Spots — Quiet & Personal

Sometimes the quietest locations are the most beautiful. The surrounding countryside around Aberfeldy has soft fields, gentle rivers, and lovely secluded corners that feel like your own secret backdrop.

These spaces are ideal if you want an intimate, relaxed, storytelling session- free from crowds, but if you get hungry later you may enjoy the fine cuisine or simple but famous fish & chips at the town square.

How to Choose the Best Spot

Not sure which location fits your session? Think about:

  • What kind of vibe do you love — woodland, open water, historic gardens

  • How comfortable do you feel walking or exploring

  • The time of day, golden hour, gives dreamy light for almost any place

I always help couples choose the perfect time + backdrop so your session feels effortless and true to your connection.
