A Gleneagles Family Photography Experience in Scotland
Hi, how are you?
I would love to share this amazing family experience I had this summer in Gleneagles Hotel.
Some family photographs are made in an hour. Others deserve a little more time.
This half-day family photography experience at Gleneagles in Perthshire became the perfect example of what family photography can look like when we stop thinking about a photoshoot as simply a time slot.
Instead, we created a day around them.
A slow morning getting ready. Breakfast together. Wandering through the beautifully decorated corridors of Gleneagles. Lawn games and time exploring the grounds. And later, a drive into the Perthshire hills for a picnic beside Loch Turret.
I photographed the story as it unfolded — stepping in when a little direction was needed and stepping away again to allow the family moments to happen naturally.
Quiet, timeless and true to them
A Slow Morning at Gleneagles
We began in their room at Gleneagles, with the children getting ready and Dad helping with hair before breakfast.
I love starting a family experience this way because these ordinary little moments often become some of the most meaningful photographs.
There is no rush to immediately find the perfect location or get everyone looking towards the camera. We simply begin with what the family is already doing.
From there, we wandered through the beautiful interiors of Gleneagles and headed downstairs for breakfast.
I photographed conversations around the table, little glances between everyone and the atmosphere of the morning — allowing them to enjoy breakfast while I quietly documented it.
More Than a Family Photoshoot
After breakfast, we headed outside to explore the Gleneagles grounds.
There were family portraits, of course, but also walking, talking, children running around and lawn games together. Few meltdowns & happy laughs too.
And this is where having more time changes everything.
I'm there when I'm needed. I can suggest beautiful light, bring everyone together for a portrait or give a little direction.
And then I step away again.
The children can play. Parents can talk. Someone can become far too competitive over a lawn game.
Life starts happening again.
The result is a gallery containing the timeless photographs you'll want to frame alongside the funny, imperfect and completely unplanned moments that actually tell the story of your family.
From Gleneagles to Loch Turret
For the second part of their experience, I suggested travelling a little further into the Perthshire landscape.
We drove to Loch Turret, surrounded by mountains, open countryside and the kind of Scottish scenery that makes you want to stay for much longer than planned.
The family brought a picnic and laid everything out beside the loch.
There was no elaborate setup.
Just a blanket, the four of them and an incredible landscape.
We stomped on tall grass to find a great spot. They sat together, explored, cuddled up when it became chilly and wandered down towards the water.
It was quiet.
Unhurried.
Timeless.
And there was very little I needed to manufacture because the memory was already happening in front of me.
A Day in Your Family Life
This experience represents exactly where my family photography is heading.
Not every family wants to meet a photographer somewhere beautiful, spend an hour posing and then go home.
Sometimes you want photographs of the experience itself.
Your children getting ready in the morning.
Breakfast during a special trip to Scotland.
Running through the grounds of a beautiful hotel.
A picnic surrounded by mountains.
A grandparent's birthday.
A family reunion.
A weekend together that may never happen in quite the same way again.
My longer family photography experiences give us enough time to create something much more personal.
I can help you plan locations and suggest places to visit, particularly around Gleneagles, Perthshire and the Scottish Highlands, while keeping the day relaxed enough that your family can simply enjoy being together.
Their Gleneagles Family Photography Experience
After receiving their gallery, the family shared these lovely words:
“We couldn't be happier with our experience! From the very beginning, she took the time to understand exactly what we wanted and made sure every detail reflected our vision. She even traveled with us to a beautiful nearby loch in Scotland to capture the stunning scenery that was so important to us.
Throughout the session, she was patient, professional, and wonderful to work with, making our family feel comfortable and relaxed. The results exceeded our expectations—she took over 1,000 photos and thoughtfully edited and delivered nearly 400 incredible images. We were amazed by both the quality and variety of the photos.
If you're looking for a photographer who is talented, accommodating, and truly goes above and beyond, we wholeheartedly recommend her. Thank you for giving us memories we'll treasure for a lifetime!”
Family Photography Experiences in Perthshire & Scotland
These experiences aren't about spending hours constantly taking photographs.
They're about having enough time that we don't have to.
Time for children to become comfortable with me. Time to stop somewhere beautiful. Time for breakfast, adventures, games and picnics. Time for plans to change when the Scottish weather inevitably has other ideas.
I'll gently guide when it's needed and create those beautiful family portraits you'll want on your walls.
But I'll also know when to step away.
Because some of my favourite photographs happen when you've almost forgotten I'm there.
Whether you're staying at Gleneagles, visiting Perthshire for a family holiday or planning a special trip through Scotland, your photography experience can be built around the way you actually want to spend your day.
Your family. Your adventure.
Your Scotland story.
Feeling over perfect.
